For the third year in a row, Australia and Oceania recorded decline in overseas shipments of baking soda, which decreased by -21.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 174%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baking soda exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 268%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Australia represented the main exporter of baking soda in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 61% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), constituting a 38% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by New Zealand (with a CAGR of +6.6%).

In value terms, New Zealand ($X) and Australia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021.

New Zealand, with a CAGR of +22.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review.

In 2021, the export price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while Australia totaled $X per ton.

In 2021, imports of baking soda in Australia and Oceania rose remarkably to X tons, with an increase of 8.2% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 91%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baking soda imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
