Exports in Australia and Oceania

For the fourth year in a row, Australia and Oceania recorded growth in overseas shipments of stainless steel sinks and wash basins, which increased by 37% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 46%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, stainless steel sink exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

New Zealand (X units) and Australia (X units) dominates exports structure, together constituting 90% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Fiji (X units), achieving a 6.4% share of total exports. New Caledonia (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by New Caledonia (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, New Zealand ($X), Australia ($X) and Fiji ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 99% share of total exports. New Caledonia lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 0.9%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, New Caledonia, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 57% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 96% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per unit), while Fiji ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of stainless steel sinks and wash basins increased by 36% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, stainless steel sink imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Australia represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at 76% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X units), comprising a 21% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to stainless steel sink imports into Australia stood at -1.9%. At the same time, New Zealand (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +6.7% from 2012-2021. New Zealand (+9.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Australia saw its share reduced by -9.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
