The shipments of the two major exporters of sweet biscuits, namely Australia and New Zealand, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

For the third year in a row, Australia and Oceania recorded growth in supplies from abroad of sweet biscuits, which increased by 1.7% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sweet biscuit imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Australia was the largest importer of sweet biscuits in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 59% of total imports in 2021. New Zealand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by French Polynesia (6.2%) and New Caledonia (5.7%). Papua New Guinea (X tons), Solomon Islands (X tons) and Vanuatu (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Imports into Australia increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Solomon Islands (+17.9%), Vanuatu (+9.1%) and Papua New Guinea (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Solomon Islands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +17.9% from 2012-2021. New Zealand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, New Caledonia (-2.7%) and French Polynesia (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Australia and Solomon Islands increased by +3 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sweet biscuits in Australia and Oceania, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by New Caledonia, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia stood at +3.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+0.8% per year) and New Caledonia (+2.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year.
