In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of t-shirts, when their volume decreased by -26.6% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1,889%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, t-shirt exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 610%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Niue (X units), American Samoa (X units), Nauru (X units), Tokelau (X units) and Australia (X units), together resulting at 96% of total export. New Zealand (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for American Samoa (with a CAGR of +254.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest t-shirt supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nauru ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Niue, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia amounted to +13.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nauru (+139.6% per year) and Niue (+158.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 120% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per unit), while Tokelau ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (-2.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, t-shirt imports in Australia and Oceania stood at X units, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -29.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 85%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, t-shirt imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Australia (X units) was the main importer of t-shirts, making up 46% of total imports. New Zealand (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Nauru (X units), American Samoa (X units), Niue (X units), Tokelau (X units) and Northern Mariana Islands (X units). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to t-shirt imports into Australia stood at -4.1%. At the same time, Nauru (+172.4%), Tokelau (+156.6%), Niue (+133.8%), Northern Mariana Islands (+91.3%) and American Samoa (+71.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nauru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +172.4% from 2012-2022. New Zealand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Nauru (+6.3 p.p.), American Samoa (+6.2 p.p.), Niue (+6.2 p.p.), Tokelau (+5.9 p.p.) and Northern Mariana Islands (+5.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of New Zealand (-1.9 p.p.) and Australia (-37.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported t-shirts in Australia and Oceania, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Nauru, with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Australia amounted to -3.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (-0.2% per year) and Nauru (+130.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit.
