In 2021, shipments abroad of trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Australia was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), constituting a 32% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene exports from Australia stood at +9.3%. At the same time, New Zealand (+31.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +31.1% from 2012-2021. In 2021, purchases abroad of trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene) decreased by -12.2% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 140%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 141%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Australia represented the key importer of trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene) in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 75% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), constituting a 21% share of total imports. Marshall Islands (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene imports into Australia stood at +6.3%. At the same time, Marshall Islands (+38.8%) displayed positive paces of growth.
