Vermouth Market Size in Australia and Oceania

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the vermouth market in Australia and Oceania, when its value decreased by -7.5% to $X. The total consumption indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 83%. The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vermouth exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 199%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from Australia (X litres), together accounting for 100% of total export.

Australia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vermouth exports, with a CAGR of +24.1% from 2012 to 2022. Australia (+25 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X) also remains the largest vermouth supplier in Australia and Oceania.

The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per litre in 2022, falling by -22.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X litres in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, vermouth imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Australia represented the main importer of vermouth in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports finishing at X litres, which was near 72% of total imports in 2022. New Zealand (X litres) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Samoa (7.4%). Tonga (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Australia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vermouth imports, with a CAGR of +10.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Samoa (+6.6%), New Zealand (+5.0%) and Tonga (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Australia increased by +18 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vermouth in Australia and Oceania, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Samoa, with a 7.4% share.

In Australia, vermouth imports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (-0.6% per year) and Samoa (+1.9% per year).

The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per litre in 2022, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild setback.
