In 2021, overseas shipments of waffles and wafers were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, waffle and wafer exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Australia (X tons) represented the key exporter of waffles and wafers, comprising 65% of total exports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), creating a 32% share of total exports. New Caledonia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

In Australia, waffle and wafer exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: New Zealand (-6.7% per year) and New Caledonia (+61.2% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, surging by 6.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. In 2021, the amount of waffles and wafers imported in Australia and Oceania shrank to X tons, with a decrease of -4.4% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -8.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 23%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, waffle and wafer imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Papua New Guinea, with a 2.8% share.

In Australia, waffle and wafer imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+4.3% per year) and Papua New Guinea (+2.4% per year).
