Exports in Australia and Oceania
Whisky exports skyrocketed to X litres in 2022, increasing by 63% against the year before. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, whisky exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate moderate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Australia dominates exports structure, accounting for X litres, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2022. Fiji (X litres) held the second position in the ranking, followed by New Zealand (X litres). All these countries together took approx. 16% share of total exports.
Exports from Australia decreased at an average annual rate of -3.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Fiji (+50.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Fiji emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +50.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, New Zealand (-5.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Fiji (+9.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while New Zealand and Australia saw its share reduced by -2.1% and -7.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest whisky supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Fiji ($X), with a 9% share of total exports.
In Australia, whisky exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Fiji (+50.3% per year) and New Zealand (-3.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per litre, falling by -3.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 197% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per litre), while Fiji ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of whisky, when their volume increased by 22% to X litres. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, whisky imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Australia represented the key importing country with an import of around X litres, which accounted for 83% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X litres), making up a 12% share of total imports. Fiji (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Australia decreased at an average annual rate of -4.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Fiji (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Fiji emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +11.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, New Zealand (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Fiji (+2.1 p.p.) and Australia (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of New Zealand (-3.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 46% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per litre), while Fiji ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
