Overall, exports, however, recorded a precipitous descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 705%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 766% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, New Zealand (X cubic meters) represented the largest exporter of preservative-treated rough wood, mixing up 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Australia (X cubic meters), constituting a 20% share of total exports.
New Zealand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the preservative-treated rough wood exports, with a CAGR of +20.2% from 2012 to 2021. Australia (-9.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. New Zealand (+79 p.p.) and Australia (+18 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) emerged as the largest preservative-treated rough wood supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with a 32% share of total exports.

In 2021, approx. X cubic meters of preservative-treated rough wood were imported in Australia and Oceania; increasing by 31% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 50%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

New Zealand represented the largest importing country with an import of around X cubic meters, which finished at 46% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Samoa (X cubic meters), French Polynesia (X cubic meters), Kiribati (X cubic meters), New Caledonia (X cubic meters) and Nauru (X cubic meters), together achieving a 45% share of total imports. Solomon Islands (X cubic meters) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preservative-treated rough wood imports into New Zealand stood at +7.3%. At the same time, French Polynesia (+22.2%), Nauru (+19.1%), Kiribati (+9.5%) and New Caledonia (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, French Polynesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +22.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Samoa (-3.0%) and Solomon Islands (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. New Zealand (+20 p.p.), French Polynesia (+7.3 p.p.), Nauru (+4.7 p.p.), Kiribati (+4.4 p.p.) and New Caledonia (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Solomon Islands and Samoa saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -5.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported preservative-treated rough wood in Australia and Oceania, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by French Polynesia ($X), with a 9.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Kiribati, with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in New Zealand totaled +2.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: French Polynesia (+17.8% per year) and Kiribati (+5.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($X per cubic meter), while Samoa ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Caledonia (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
