For the third consecutive year, the Australian antisera market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 17% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption enjoyed a resilient expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, antisera production fell dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 173% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for antisera exports from Australia, accounting for a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, antisera exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States totaled +48.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-7.0% per year) and China (+19.7% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for antisera and other blood fractions exports from Australia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 3.8% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 3.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at +83.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: New Zealand (+13.1% per year) and China (+23.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average antisera export price amounted to $X per kg, reducing by -45.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 193%. The export price peaked at $X per kg in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+39.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Australia
In 2021, the amount of antisera and other blood fractions imported into Australia soared to X tons, picking up by 53% on the year before. In general, imports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, antisera imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Singapore (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of antisera to Australia, with a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, antisera imports from Singapore exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, New Zealand (X tons), threefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Singapore totaled +80.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+20.2% per year) and Japan (+52.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and Switzerland ($X) appeared to be the largest antisera suppliers to Australia, together accounting for 58% of total imports. Singapore, South Korea, Japan, France, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong SAR and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +184.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average antisera import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -23.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 6.2%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+38.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
