In 2022, the Australian table-tennis equipment market increased by 11% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, table-tennis equipment exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 340% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
New Zealand (X tons) was the main destination for table-tennis equipment exports from Australia, accounting for a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, table-tennis equipment exports to New Zealand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X kg), eightfold. Hong Kong SAR (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to New Zealand amounted to +83.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+53.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+55.8% per year).
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) remains the key foreign market for articles and equipment for table-tennis exports from Australia, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to New Zealand amounted to +88.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+7.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+23.5% per year).

The average table-tennis equipment export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 84% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 286% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. In 2022, purchases abroad of articles and equipment for table-tennis increased by 50% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, table-tennis equipment imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of table-tennis equipment to Australia, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, table-tennis equipment imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 5.4% share.
