New Zealand (X litres) was the main destination for cider, perry and mead exports from Australia, with a 49% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X litres), with a 10% share.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages, when their volume decreased by -46.2% to X litres. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X litres in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cider, perry and mead imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
New Zealand (X litres), Sweden (X litres) and Ireland (X litres) were the main suppliers of cider, perry and mead imports to Australia, together accounting for 73% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Japan, the UK, Spain and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +24.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
