China (X tons) was the main destination for cigars and cigarillos exports from Australia, with a 58% share of total exports. Cigars and cigarillos imports into Australia shrank slightly to X tons in 2022, stabilizing at 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 59%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cigars and cigarillos imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest cigars and cigarillos supplier to Australia, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, cigars and cigarillos imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), twofold. Indonesia, with a CAGR of +34.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cigars and cigarillos import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 203% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cuba ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+26.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
