The average diagnostic equipment export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -19.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 250%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, supplies from abroad of electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus increased by 2.2% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, diagnostic equipment imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2021, the United States (X units) constituted the largest diagnostic equipment supplier to Australia, accounting for a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, diagnostic equipment imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), fourfold. Japan (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.8% share.
