From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +34.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Australia
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of prepared dishes and meals decreased by -18.6% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 49%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, prepared dish and meal imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main suppliers of prepared dish and meal imports to Australia, together accounting for 29% of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, the United States, the Netherlands, China, Japan, Taiwan (Chinese), Germany, Denmark and India, which together accounted for a further 51%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +19.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest prepared dish and meal suppliers to Australia were Singapore ($X), New Zealand ($X) and the United States ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. These countries were followed by China, the Netherlands, Germany, Thailand, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese), India and Japan, which together accounted for a further 31%.
Among the main suppliers, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +24.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average prepared dish and meal import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
