New Zealand (X tons) was the main destination for preserved frozen potato exports from Australia, accounting for a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, preserved frozen potato exports to New Zealand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Philippines (X tons), more than tenfold. Vietnam (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to New Zealand was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Philippines (+69.6% per year) and Vietnam (+13.4% per year).
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) remains the key foreign market for frozen potatoes prepared or preserved exports from Australia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to New Zealand was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Philippines (+52.6% per year) and Vietnam (+21.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average preserved frozen potato export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+18.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved, when their volume increased by 6.5% to X tons. In general, imports, however, saw a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved frozen potato imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved frozen potato imports to Australia, together comprising 78% of total imports. The United States, Argentina and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +120.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average preserved frozen potato import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
