In 2022, shipments abroad of hardboard increased by 33% to X cubic meters, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 107% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hardboard exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 55%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The UK (X cubic meters), New Zealand (X cubic meters) and the Netherlands (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of hardboard exports from Australia, with a combined 90% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by New Zealand (with a CAGR of +26.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for hardboard exported from Australia were New Zealand ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 76% share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 23%. The export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, purchases abroad of hardboard increased by 0.7% to X cubic meters, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hardboard imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters) and Thailand (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of hardboard imports to Australia, with a combined 83% share of total imports. Germany, New Zealand, Spain, Malaysia, the United States, France and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +107.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest hardboard suppliers to Australia were Belgium ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 84% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the United States, Spain, Malaysia, New Zealand, France and South Africa, which together accounted for a further 12%.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per cubic meter), while the price for New Zealand ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
