New Zealand (X tons), Papua New Guinea (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of household hand tools exports from Australia, together comprising 53% of total exports. Fiji, Solomon Islands, Singapore, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Kiribati, Malaysia, the UK and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

In 2021, the average household hand tools export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -33.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 129% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kiribati (+20.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of household hand tools increased by 21% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 22%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, household hand tools imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest household hand tools supplier to Australia, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, household hand tools imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 3% share.
