China (X tons), the United States (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) were the main destinations of imitation jewellery exports from Australia, together accounting for 51% of total exports. The UK, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, France, Canada, Singapore, India, New Caledonia and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +77.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for imitation jewellery exported from Australia were New Zealand ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 69% share of total exports. China, Singapore, the UK, France, Macao SAR, Canada, India, New Caledonia, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
Among the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +61.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average imitation jewellery export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 151%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+40.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of imitation jewelry increased by 111% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imitation jewellery imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable setback. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of imitation jewellery to Australia, accounting for a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, imitation jewellery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -17.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+1.6% per year) and Italy (+6.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of imitation jewellery to Australia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+2.3% per year) and Thailand (-3.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average imitation jewellery import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -40% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 196%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
