In 2022, overseas purchases of perfumes and toilet waters increased by 26% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild downturn. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, perfume imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, France (X tons) constituted the largest perfume supplier to Australia, with a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, perfume imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 14% share.
