The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 271%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, recovered paper imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 254%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, New Zealand (X tons) was the main recovered paper supplier to Australia, with a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States (X tons), with a 1.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from New Zealand totaled +28.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-19.8% per year) and New Caledonia (-36.2% per year).
