South Korea (X tons) was the main destination for roasted coffee substitutes exports from Australia, with a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by Papua New Guinea (X tons), with a 1.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Korea amounted to +59.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Papua New Guinea (+20.6% per year) and New Zealand (-35.4% per year).

In 2021, the amount of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes imported into Australia reduced to X tons, declining by -2.3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, roasted coffee substitutes import price increased by +89.9% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
