In value terms, silver exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 967% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Canada (X tons), the UK (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) were the main destinations of silver exports from Australia, together comprising 77% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Australia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of silver including silver plated with gold or platinum decreased by -33.2% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 279% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, silver imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 391%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest silver supplier to Australia, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, silver imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +281.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+115.0% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+84.2% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of silver including silver plated with gold or platinum to Australia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland stood at +297.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+115.5% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+88.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average silver import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 29% against the previous year. Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Indonesia ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while the price for Papua New Guinea ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+41.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
