The Australian soft drink market reduced to $X in 2021, declining by -11.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a drastic downturn. Soft drink consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
New Zealand (X litres), the United States (X litres) and China (X litres) were the main destinations of soft drink exports from Australia, with a combined 67% share of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, the UK, South Africa and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +44.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X), the United States ($X) and China ($X) were the largest markets for soft drink exported from Australia worldwide, together comprising 65% of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Malaysia, the UK, Singapore, South Africa and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 21%.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +43.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, growing by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to China ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, approx. X litres of soft drinks were imported into Australia; surging by 25% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.9% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, soft drink imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +83.3% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

New Zealand (X litres), Austria (X litres) and the United States (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Australia, with a combined 58% share of total imports. Japan, Switzerland, South Korea, the UK, China, the Netherlands, Taiwan (Chinese), Italy, Germany and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +55.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X), Austria ($X) and Japan ($X) appeared to be the largest soft drink suppliers to Australia, together accounting for 58% of total imports.
Japan, with a CAGR of +48.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per litre), while the price for Germany ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
