In 2022, the amount of trucks exported from Australia surged to X units, picking up by 42% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports posted tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, truck exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

New Zealand (X units) was the main destination for truck exports from Australia, accounting for a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, truck exports to New Zealand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X units), with a 1.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to New Zealand totaled +22.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+29.0% per year) and the United States (-21.6% per year).
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) remains the key foreign market for trucks exports from Australia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 2.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with a 1.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to New Zealand stood at +15.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-20.5% per year) and Kenya (+46.9% per year).

In 2022, the average truck export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -18% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Australia
In 2022, the amount of trucks imported into Australia fell slightly to X units, approximately equating the year before. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, truck imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Thailand (X units) constituted the largest truck supplier to Australia, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, truck imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X units), with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Thailand amounted to +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+10.9% per year) and the United States (+30.4% per year).
In value terms, Thailand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of trucks to Australia, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Thailand stood at +4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+2.5% per year) and the United States (+21.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average truck import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 6.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while the price for Mexico ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
