The Australian wheat starch market soared to $X in 2021, rising by 31% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, purchases abroad of wheat starch decreased by -56.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 141% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wheat starch imports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
