Exports by Country
Germany (X units) was the main destination for electronic chip exports from Austria, with a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, electronic chip exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X units), fourfold. Hungary (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to -6.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+41.3% per year) and Hungary (+6.7% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for electronic chips exports from Austria, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled -2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+24.8% per year) and China (+1.9% per year).

In 2021, the average electronic chip export price amounted to $X per unit, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. In 2021, supplies from abroad of electronic chips was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X units), Belgium (X units) and Romania (X units) were the main suppliers of electronic chip imports to Austria, together comprising 66% of total imports.
