Ferro-Manganese Market Size in Austria

For the third consecutive year, the Austrian ferro-manganese market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -29.2% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption showed a slight contraction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of ferro-manganese increased by 114% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after eight years of decline. Overall, exports showed a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 148% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ferro-manganese exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tons) was the main destination for ferro-manganese exports from Austria, with a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, ferro-manganese exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), fourfold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France stood at +23.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-5.1% per year) and Poland (+6.5% per year).

In 2022, the average ferro-manganese export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 14% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+41.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of ferro-manganese imported into Austria dropped remarkably to X tons, waning by -21.6% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 34%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ferro-manganese imports totaled $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 37%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
