In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. In value terms, industrial robot exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X units) was the main destination for industrial robot exports from Austria, with a 24% share of total exports. Moreover, industrial robot exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X units), twofold. Poland (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+3.4% per year) and Poland (+7.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Mexico ($X) were the largest markets for industrial robot exported from Austria worldwide, with a combined 41% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, China, Romania, Switzerland, Hungary, Israel, India and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Israel, with a CAGR of +24.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial robot imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Germany (X units), Sweden (X units) and Hungary (X units) were the main suppliers of industrial robot imports to Austria, with a combined 77% share of total imports. Italy, Switzerland, South Korea and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
