The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 48%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of potato exports from Austria, with a combined 58% share of total exports. The Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Croatia (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of potatoes decreased by -0.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -18.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -22.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 39%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main suppliers of potato imports to Austria, with a combined 89% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 8.1%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Switzerland (with a CAGR of +21.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of potato to Austria, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 13% share.
