The Austrian lubricant additives market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Lubricant additives consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lubricant additives exports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. Germany (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the main destinations of lubricant additives exports from Austria, with a combined 74% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Slovenia, Iran, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Croatia, which together accounted for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +47.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, approx. X tons of prepared additives for mineral oils were imported into Austria; increasing by 9.3% on 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lubricant additives imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
