In 2021, purchases abroad of prepared or preserved meat or offal of turkeys decreased by -6.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 51%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved turkey imports reached $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest preserved turkey supplier to Austria, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved turkey imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Romania (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with a 20% share.
