Reclaimed Rubber Market Size in Austria
In 2021, the Austrian reclaimed rubber market decreased by -19% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a prominent increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Reclaimed Rubber Production in Austria
In value terms, reclaimed rubber production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +71.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. Reclaimed rubber production peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports from Austria
In 2021, exports of reclaimed rubber from Austria dropped to X tons, which is down by -5.2% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw pronounced growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 107%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for reclaimed rubber exports from Austria, with a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, reclaimed rubber exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X tons), ninefold. Croatia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany amounted to +3.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (+24.5% per year) and Croatia (+60.2% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for reclaimed rubber exports from Austria, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Switzerland ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (+20.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+4.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average reclaimed rubber export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Reclaimed Rubber Imports
Imports into Austria
For the fourth year in a row, Austria recorded decline in supplies from abroad of reclaimed rubber, which decreased by -56.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Croatia (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of reclaimed rubber imports to Austria, together comprising 97% of total imports. Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 2.4%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Switzerland (with a CAGR of +14.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of reclaimed rubber to Austria, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Croatia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Switzerland, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled -6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Croatia (-19.6% per year) and Switzerland (+17.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average reclaimed rubber import price amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
