Romania (X cubic meters), Slovenia (X cubic meters) and Italy (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of coniferous roundwood exports from Austria, together accounting for 83% of total exports.

Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -30.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X cubic meters in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, coniferous roundwood imports fell to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

The Czech Republic (X cubic meters), Germany (X cubic meters) and Slovenia (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of coniferous roundwood imports to Austria, together accounting for 90% of total imports. Italy, Hungary, Switzerland and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.9%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +6.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Hungary ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
