Semiconductor Device Market Size in Austria
In 2021, the Austrian semiconductor device market was finally on the rise to reach $X after four years of decline. Overall, the total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -36.3% against 2016 indices. Semiconductor device consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Austria
In 2021, semiconductor device exports from Austria declined dramatically to X units, which is down by -31.2% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, semiconductor device exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 113%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X units) was the main destination for semiconductor device exports from Austria, with a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, semiconductor device exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X units), more than tenfold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Malaysia totaled +71.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+44.0% per year) and Germany (-18.9% per year).
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for semiconductor devices exports from Austria, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia stood at +72.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+76.8% per year) and Germany (-3.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average semiconductor device export price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 87%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+22.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Austria
In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of semiconductor devices, when their volume decreased by -11.3% to X units. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, semiconductor device imports reduced sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 68% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany (X units), China (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main suppliers of semiconductor device imports to Austria, with a combined 70% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Taiwan (Chinese), Poland, Italy, Malaysia, the United States, Belgium, Switzerland and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +140.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest semiconductor device suppliers to Austria, with a combined 79% share of total imports. The United States, China, France, Italy, Malaysia, Belgium, Poland, Switzerland and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +135.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average semiconductor device import price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+25.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
