Sweet Potato Market Size in Austria

The Austrian sweet potato market soared to $X in 2021, jumping by 26% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, sweet potato imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 91%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sweet potato to Austria, accounting for a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, sweet potato imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 19% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +87.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+65.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+82.2% per year).

In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sweet potatoes to Austria, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain stood at +81.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+52.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+77.5% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
