In 2021, supplies from abroad of vitrifiable enamels and glazes for ceramics, enamelling or glass was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a slight setback. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, enamels and glazes imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of enamels and glazes imports to Austria, with a combined 83% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, the United States and Liechtenstein lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Liechtenstein (with a CAGR of +176.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
