Germany (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main destinations of worked flat glass exports from Austria, with a combined 55% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the Czech Republic, Australia, the UK, Mexico, Spain, New Zealand, Romania and Russia, which together accounted for a further 28%.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of worked flat glass decreased by -7.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.7% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, worked flat glass imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of worked flat glass imports to Austria, together comprising 88% of total imports. France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.5%.
