The Austrian yoghurt market declined markedly to $X in 2022, dropping by -23% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a mild contraction. Yoghurt consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of yoghurt exports from Austria, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Poland, Belgium, Slovenia, Hungary, China, Finland, the Netherlands and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +364.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for yoghurt exported from Austria were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Slovenia ($X), together accounting for 66% of total exports. In terms of the main countries of destination, China, with a CAGR of +358.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average yoghurt export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 7.4% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Austria
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of yoghurt, when their volume decreased by -0.2% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, yoghurt imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of yoghurt to Austria, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, yoghurt imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Greece (X tons), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to +2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+38.6% per year) and Greece (+5.6% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of yoghurt to Austria, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Greece ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+1.3% per year) and Belgium (+27.3% per year).

In 2022, the average yoghurt import price amounted to $X per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
