For the fourth consecutive year, Azerbaijan recorded decline in supplies from abroad of cards incorporating a magnetic stripe, which decreased by -80.4% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a significant curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 421%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, magnetic card imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a sharp contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 155% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Ukraine (X units), Russia (X units) and Austria (X units) were the main suppliers of magnetic card imports to Azerbaijan, with a combined 81% share of total imports. Singapore, China, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of -20.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Austria ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Singapore ($X) were the largest magnetic card suppliers to Azerbaijan, with a combined 64% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Singapore, with a CAGR of -27.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

The average magnetic card import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 152% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+96.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
