Ceramic Tile Market Size in Azerbaijan

After three years of growth, the Azerbaijani ceramic tile market decreased by -61.8% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Russia (X square meters) was the main destination for ceramic tile exports from Azerbaijan, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, ceramic tile exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Georgia (X square meters), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia totaled +427.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Georgia (+94.3% per year) and Belarus (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for ceramic tiles exports from Azerbaijan, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Georgia ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +321.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Georgia (+114.6% per year) and Belarus (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average ceramic tile export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 157%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Azerbaijan

After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of ceramic tiles decreased by -21.4% to X square meters in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 143%. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 201%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Iran (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic tile to Azerbaijan, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, ceramic tile imports from Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X square meters), fivefold. Turkey (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Iran amounted to +26.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+159.9% per year) and Turkey (+4.2% per year).

In value terms, Iran ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic tiles to Azerbaijan, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Iran amounted to +22.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+7.7% per year) and India (+114.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average ceramic tile import price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, increasing by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per square meter), while the price for Uzbekistan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
