Cheese Market Size in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani cheese market expanded slightly to $X in 2021, increasing by 3.5% against the previous year. Russia (X tons) was the main destination for cheese exports from Azerbaijan, with a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), with a 2.7% share of total exports.

In 2021, the average cheese export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a moderate increase. Imports into Azerbaijan

In 2021, supplies from abroad of cheese increased by 3.3% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +49.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cheese imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Iran (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of cheese imports to Azerbaijan, with a combined 42% share of total imports.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
