Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 2,074% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Georgia (X tons) were the main destinations of crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports from Azerbaijan, with a combined 79% share of total exports. Kazakhstan and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +92.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exported from Azerbaijan were Moldova ($X), Belarus ($X) and Georgia ($X), with a combined 80% share of total exports. Kazakhstan and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
Among the main countries of destination, Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +88.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($X per ton) and Moldova ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Crispbread, Rusks and Toasted Bread
Imports into Azerbaijan
After three years of decline, purchases abroad of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread increased by 22% to X tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 79% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of crispbread, rusk and toasted bread to Azerbaijan, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia amounted to +18.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (+47.3% per year) and Turkey (-1.0% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread to Azerbaijan, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia totaled +25.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+17.7% per year) and Ukraine (-3.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread import price increased by +41.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 51%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
