After two years of decline, the Azerbaijani market for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread increased by 0.2% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 2,074% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belarus (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Georgia (X tons) were the main destinations of crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports from Azerbaijan, with a combined 79% share of total exports. Kazakhstan and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +92.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of decline, purchases abroad of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread increased by 22% to X tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the average import price for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread import price increased by +41.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 51%.
