Plastic Container Market Size in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani plastic container market dropped slightly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In value terms, plastic container exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. Exports by Country

Uzbekistan (X tons) was the main destination for plastic container exports from Azerbaijan, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic container exports to Uzbekistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), fivefold. Ukraine (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Uzbekistan amounted to +39.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+65.6% per year) and Ukraine (+142.6% per year).

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the key foreign market for plastic containers exports from Azerbaijan, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Uzbekistan totaled +37.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+50.5% per year) and Ukraine (+225.9% per year).

In 2021, the average plastic container export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Hungary ($X per ton) and Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+34.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Azerbaijan

Plastic container imports into Azerbaijan rose modestly to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 4.2% on the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic container imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -35.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 86%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), Iran (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic container imports to Azerbaijan, together accounting for 71% of total imports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, Russia and Germany, which together accounted for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +36.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Iran ($X) appeared to be the largest plastic container suppliers to Azerbaijan, together accounting for 53% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Iran, with a CAGR of +31.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average plastic container import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -11.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 49%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
