Exports from Azerbaijan

In 2022, rare gases exports from Azerbaijan declined remarkably to X cubic meters, with a decrease of -99.3% on the previous year. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 749% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, rare gases exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a precipitous decline. Denmark (X cubic meters) and the United States (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of rare gases exports from Azerbaijan. Moreover, rare gases exports in Denmark exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest exporter, the United States, twofold.

In value terms, Denmark ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest markets for rare gases exported from Azerbaijan worldwide.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average rare gases export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 285% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Denmark stood at $X per cubic meter.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+286.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Azerbaijan

In 2022, supplies from abroad of rare gases (excluding argon) increased by 220% to X cubic meters, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 301%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, rare gases imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the UK (X cubic meters) constituted the largest rare gases supplier to Azerbaijan, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, rare gases imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Qatar (X cubic meters), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X cubic meters), with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the UK stood at +14.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Qatar (+46.3% per year) and Russia (+8.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest rare gases suppliers to Azerbaijan were the UK ($X), Qatar ($X) and Russia ($X), together comprising 79% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Algeria, Poland, India and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 19%.

India, with a CAGR of +71.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average rare gases import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, waning by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 50%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per cubic meter), while the price for India ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+37.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
