The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +116.3% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sanitary towel and diaper to Azerbaijan, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, sanitary towel and diaper imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), fivefold. Iran (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+19.4% per year) and Iran (+72.2% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sanitary towels, tampons, napkins and diapers to Azerbaijan, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 2.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+34.0% per year) and Poland (-0.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sanitary towel and diaper import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 27%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
