In 2022, supplies from abroad of telephones and videophones increased by 20% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 322%. Imports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, telephone imports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest telephone supplier to Azerbaijan, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, telephone imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X units), sevenfold. Vietnam (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +52.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+88.0% per year) and Vietnam (+61.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of telephones and videophones to Azerbaijan, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +26.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+84.4% per year) and Malaysia (+54.3% per year).

The average telephone import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -18.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 35%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
