Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 208%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, uncooked pasta imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 170% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest uncooked pasta supplier to Azerbaijan, accounting for a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, uncooked pasta imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +18.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+22.3% per year) and Italy (+10.6% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta to Azerbaijan, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey totaled +21.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+22.3% per year) and Italy (+24.0% per year).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
