Wrapping Papers Market Size in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani wrapping papers market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. In general, consumption enjoyed a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wrapping papers exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, faced a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 280% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Georgia (X tons) was the main destination for wrapping papers exports from Azerbaijan, with a approx. 99.9% share of total exports.

Imports into Azerbaijan

In 2021, supplies from abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 95% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wrapping papers imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wrapping papers to Azerbaijan, with a 85% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine (X tons), with a 2.2% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lithuania (X tons), with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia totaled +22.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+16.7% per year) and Lithuania (+215.6% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard to Azerbaijan, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 3.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia totaled +26.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-14.5% per year) and Ukraine (+13.8% per year).

The average wrapping papers import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 5.5% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wrapping papers import price decreased by -1.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 43% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
