Stationery Market Size in Bahrain

The Bahraini stationery market soared to $X in 2022, increasing by 142% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. In 2022, overseas shipments of articles of stationery decreased by -91.4% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 912% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, stationery exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 741%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Qatar (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of stationery exports from Bahrain, with a combined 99% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +44.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for articles of stationery exports from Bahrain, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Qatar ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia totaled +11.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Qatar (+31.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-5.9% per year).

In 2022, the average stationery export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 243% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a buoyant increase. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+24.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Bahrain

After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of articles of stationery increased by 71% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of stationery imports to Bahrain, together accounting for 82% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.6%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest stationery suppliers to Bahrain were China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

India, with a CAGR of +4.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average stationery import price amounted to $X per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, leveling off in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
